Impressionism is rarely associated with the word decoration. However, Impressionist works that we now consider to be easel paintings – landscapes, flowers or everyday scenes – were originally conceived as decorations. This special issue accompanying the Musée de l’Orangerie exhibition shows how Impressionist artists experimented with this concept.
